~In case you haven't seen it; the new Marines trailer~
In case you haven't checked, the Aliens vs. Predator multiplayer demo should now be available from a download service of your choice; XBL, PSN and Steam. The demo was (supposedly) released last Friday 5th Feb, but I didn't see it appear on my XBL service until last night, maybe I'm living in a black hole or something.
The demo allows you to play with some friends and/or play a quick match against some randoms online. There is only one level to play, "The Refinery," but you can play as all three species; Alien, Marine or Predator.
Anyway, it seems that PC and PS3 users of the demo over the weekend were plagued with some issues, which Rebellion has now apologised for; while the Xbox 360 version was unaffected.
PC gamers, playing via Steam, had issues with simply trying to connect to games - however a patch has now been released, which should solve the problem for anyone who has been having problems.
PS3 owners might not be so lucky though. They have been experiencing a similar issue to the PC version, finding that the matchmaking search wasn't working properly and not connecting to games. But unlike those playing via Steam, the PS3 version won't be seeing a fix anytime soon, it seems, as Rebellion have been quoted saying that the PS3 issues might be "ongoing."
Rebellion released this statement of apology last night:
"The full game features the ability to browse for and create games but for the purposes of simplicity the demo was limited to matchmaking, alongside the ability to set up groups with friends which mitigated yesterday's issues for many.
"We're really sorry that this issue tainted a day in which we saw many people get hands-on with AVP for the first time and we're hugely gratified by the positive feedback to the game."
So it seems that if you are PS3 owner wanting to get your hands on some AvP action before the game's release, then it might be best for you to create a match against friends and avoid the matchmaking issues.
